About the care

What is pediatric occupational therapy?

Occupational therapy helps children build the everyday skills that let them play, learn, and take care of themselves.

A pediatric occupational therapist looks at the whole child — how they move, how their senses process the world, and how they manage attention and big feelings. From there they build a play-based plan that turns hard things into achievable, motivating steps.

Families typically seek out an OT when a child struggles with handwriting or fine-motor tasks, is over- or under-sensitive to sound, touch, or movement, has trouble with self-care routines like dressing and feeding, or needs support with focus and self-regulation.

What OT helps with

  • Fine-motor & handwriting skills
  • Sensory processing & regulation
  • Self-care: dressing, feeding, sleep
  • Coordination, balance & core strength
  • Attention, focus & transitions
  • Play, social & school readiness
