About the care

What is pediatric physical therapy?

Physical therapy helps children build the strength, balance, and coordination they need to move through their world with confidence.

A pediatric physical therapist looks at how a child moves — how they roll, sit, crawl, walk, run, and play — and designs playful, motivating activities that build strength and quality of movement. Sessions look a lot like play, but every game works toward a specific motor goal.

Families typically seek out a PT when a baby is late to roll, sit, or walk, when a child toe-walks, seems clumsy, or tires easily, after an injury or surgery, or to support a diagnosis like cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, or hypotonia.

What PT helps with

  • Gross-motor milestones: rolling, sitting, walking
  • Strength, endurance & core stability
  • Balance & coordination
  • Torticollis & head-shape concerns
  • Gait differences like toe-walking
  • Recovery after injury or surgery
